History

The Company was formed in 1998 through the merger of two existing underwriters - Angerstein Underwriting Trust plc (founded in 1903) and Murray Lawrence Group plc (founded in 1984). The name Amlin was formed as follows: A from Angerstein Underwriting Trust plc, ML from Murray Lawrence Group plc and IN from Insurance.

On 3 June 2009 Amlin announced that it bought Fortis Corporate Insurance from the Dutch government for €350 million.

Operations

Amlin has the following divisions: Amlin London, Amlin UK, Amlin Bermuda, Amlin France, Amlin Corporate Insurance and Amlin Re Europe.
