The American School of Bombay is a co-educational, international, day school in Mumbai, India.

Educational Program /Curriculum

The American School of Bombay follows a college preparatory program that culminates with an American high school diploma or the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Special programs

Specialist teachers are provided for French, Spanish, Drama, Music, Art, PE, and Technology for grades ECEC (Early Childhood Education Center) through grade 12. The school offers a comprehensive after-school activities (ASB-E3) and athletics programs. The ASB-E3 includes: Arts and Crafts, Cooking, Hindi, Taekwondo, and many others. The athletics program includes track and field, soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and swimming. In addition, ASB actively participates in SAISA (South Asia International School Association), music festivals, choral festivals, Model United Nations (MUN) and the International School Theater Association (ISTA).

Educational Technology

In the middle and high school all students in grades 6-12 use Tablet PCs as a tool to support and enhance their learning throughout the curriculum. The facilities include a campus-wide wireless network. The one-to-one program in the Elementary School provides access in a 1-to-1 laptop ratio for grades 3-5 and an appropriate student-to-laptop ratio for ECEC to grade 2.

History

In 1981, a group of International parents started the American School of Bombay with just 12 students in a room at the American Consulate. The idea was to offer an educational program that would help students make an easy transition from one international school to another. As the school grew, it moved from the American Consulate to nearby residential apartments. In November 1998, the school moved to its current state of the art campus in Bandra, a Mumbai suburb.

Governance

ASB is organized and operated on a non-profit basis by the American School of Bombay Education Trust set up under the terms and conditions laid down by the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. The school is governed by a Board of Trustees, elected by the parents and faculty, for a two-year term.
