honoring the best in film and television for 2001 were held January 5th 2002. The nominations were announced December 17, 2001. The ceremony announcing the winners was broadcast on CBS. It did not do well in the ratings (getting only 5.5 million viewers)so it would not be held in this format again. The AFI would go back to just listing the ten best movies and television shows and not have any acting categories or technical categories.
