Geography

Ambah is located at 26.71°N 78.23°E. It has an average elevation of 161 metres (528 feet). This area is located near the Chambal Ghat. River chambal flows very near to Ambah and forms border between M.P. & U.P. and M.P. & Rajasthan. It is famous for its ancient fort and Kakanmath temple.

Ambah has an average literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 61% of the males and 39% of females literate. 16% of the population is under 6 years of age. It is also famous for 'Banjara Kua' which has been built overnight. The dominant castes of Ambah are Brahmins and Thakurs. It was formerly known as AMBRISH NAGARI. Ambah is a developed township of morena than other towns. The famous temple of Lord Shiva named KAKANMATH is in Ambah block. This temple was made by Chandela kings.
It is also known for being the birthplace of Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil.

1.P.G college ambah
Ambah Post Graduate College (better known as P.G. College) is an autonomous college situated in the heart of Ambah. The college is very well known for its very high education standards and is awarded as "Centre of Excellency" by Jiwaji University, Gwalior. Ambah College is NAAC Accredited with C G P A of 2.31 on Four point scale at B grade.

Religious Status

Ambah is primarily a Hindu-dominant town. Jainism is prominent enough, along with Islam. Rest religions are almost non-existent.

There are hundreds of places of religious importance (mostly Hindu temples and a couple of mosques) in and around Ambah. Jayeshwar Mahadev Mandir (temple), ManshaPoorn Hanumaan Mandir, Heeron wali mata (Goddess of Diamonds) and Badi Masjid (big mosque) are a few to name. There are five jain temples in Ambah in which Bada Jain mandir as it is known is given more priority. This temple is situated in purani gali and one temple is situated at parade square and other are in jain gali. There is another famous hanuman temple which is known as JHHADI WALE HANUMANJI.

Transport

The only mode of transport to Ambah is by road. The closest railway station is Morena which is around 33 km from Ambah. There are very frequent public transport (mostly private buses/UVs) available between Ambah and Morena. The most prominent city close to Ambah is Gwalior (68 km). Ambah has a distance of around 300 km from New Delhi.

Health facilities

Ambah Civil Hospital is a large hospital in Morena district. Many patients from nearby region and villages come to ambah hospital daily for health issues. Routine camps and vaccine camps are organised throughout the year Ambah hospital. Night facility is also available in hospital. Several diseases are treated free of cost in hospital.There are several private hospitals in Ambah. But they are costlier. Patients are always advised to check up in civil hospital.
There are various medical stores located near the civil hospital Ambah but the very old and famous medical is Shiv Medical Store which is run by Mr. Ajay Verma. He is very honest and respected person in his town.

Fairs and Activities

During February–March every year, an animal fair is organized by the local municipality. The fair starts about five weeks prior to Holi (the festival of colors) and ends in two weeks. During this animal fair, almost entire Ambah (especially the area around Morena road till Ambah PG College) has cow and buffalo-dung everywhere and roads are barely usable. As this fair ends, starts a fun fair for human beings. This fair is known as Jayeshwar Mahadev Mela (in the name of an ancient Lord Shiva temple). The fair usually starts around three weeks before Holi and ends on the previous evening of the festival. Apart from usual trading and amusement facilities, municipality arranges for a special event in the evening. The trend so far has been in a way that the last night of fair gets an orchestra. The orchestra plays through the entire night, till very early morning. This evening is considered to be as one of the biggest public gathering in the town. Dr Arya is oldest dr of ambah
Every year an Eye Operation Camp is also organized by Red Cross with the help of local NGOs.
