Amarpatan is located at 24.32°N 80.98°E. It has an average elevation of 358 metres (1174 feet). There are many villages which surround the town. It is on National Highway No.7 and connects Rewa to Maihar.

Amarpatan is a tahsil place of Satna. It is a Nagar Pachayat.It is 36 km from district headquarters. nearest Railway Station is Maihar which is 24 km. Amarpatan is a well-developed town.
