Amarasiri Dodangoda was the Cabinet Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs of Sri Lanka
from April 2004 until 2005. He served as Chief minister of the Southern Province of Sri Lanka for one term from 1993 to 1994 and another term in 1994. He represented Galle
district in parliament. As of 23 November 2005, under the new government of President Mahinda Rajapakse, he was the Cabinet Minister of Justice until his death on 30 May 2009. At the time of death Minister Dodangoda was 66 years of age. His father was a prominent businessman name known as William Appuhami (Market Ralahami). Minister Dodangoda left behind his wife, a lawyer, and two sons.
He attended Richmond College in Galle, Sri Lanka, and University of Peradeniya in Kandy, where he completed Bachelor of Arts in 1963. After Leaving the University he joined Vidyaloka Periwena as a teacher. He later joined Law College of Sri Lanka. There he excelled as the batch top in Company Law. Subsequently he joined Government as an Education officer of Sri Lanka Education service. He later resigned from Department of Education and entered mainstream Politics. He was a radical political figure in Southern Sri Lanka since 1971. He acted as SLFP organizer of Baddegama, contested the Baddegama seat and entered Parliament in 1983. In 1993 he gave up his Opposition Parliamentary seat and made revolutionary move, giving signals end 17-year UNP Government, he was the elected Chief Minister of the Southern Province with recorded majority votes. He re-entered Parliament as an MP in 1994, and held various ministries, including those of indigenous medicine, co-operatives, vocational training, local government, public administration and home affairs. He was appointed Minister of Justice and Law Reforms in 2005. As a politician he has been man of ethics, and has never crossed over from Political from his political party, has never misappropriated public funds, and supported leftist course of views. People of Galle in appreciation continued to support Amarasiri Dodamgoda as a Minister while he was ailing due poor health in his later years. He was a firm supporter of the Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapaksha.
