She grew up in Friesland

 herself. After her marriage to Frederick in 1727 she moved to Durlach.
Frederick died shortly after the birth of their second child.

Because of her many tantrums there was a rumor at the court of Durlach, that she was mentally ill. During her pregnancies, she tyrannized her servants.
As further evidence of her alleged mental illness it was alleged that she shed no tears at the sight of her dead husband († March 26, 1732).

Her father-in-law, Charles III William, Margrave of Baden-Durlach, did not want her to influence the new crown prince Charles Frederick.
Mother and son continued to live in Karlsburg Castle

In 1727 Amalia married Friedrich of Baden-Durlach (1703-1732). They had two children:
