One of his first songs, "Dame Un Beso" became a moderate success. "Alpha" led Selena win for "Female Vocalist of the Year" at 1987 Hispanic Music Awards and was voted for "Female Vocalist of the Year" and "Performer of the Year" at the Tejano Music Awards.
