 competition started up in 2004 to be played by the winners of the Junior Club Championship from each County. Prior to that a number of unofficial competitions were held. Winners of each counties junior football championship then progress to there respective provincial junior championships and winners of that competition then progress onto the all Ireland series.

Kerry clubs have enjoyed the most success, with five clubs winning the All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship since its official inauguration in 2004.

John Mitchells of Lancashire reached the 2009 final. They were the first team from outside of Ireland to reach the final.
