Alive radio
Encyclopedia
Alive Radio was started to help musicians from all Genres get their music heard and played around the world so that they could get themselves signed to a record label. They play all styles of music and as long as the content isn't blatantly offensive or defamatory there's every chance that they will play your music.

Alive Radio have a Christian bias and are happy to welcome any christian artist to their station as they feel that predominatly Christian stations probably only reach . . . Christians
and that's fine if you are only interested in reaching Christians but it's a bit of a waste especially if you are trying to attract people who currently have little or no Christian belief.

So they mix Christianity with everything else on the station.

Alive radio's concept of community radio is outlined here on the homepage of their website:
"Community radio is all about supporting a community, helping it grow and develop in a healthy way. That’s what we’re doing here at Alive."

The key slots are Breakfast (7am – 9am every day) and Drivetime (4pm – 6pm) weekdays, plus specialist shows for various music genres including some niche ones, community organisations’ features, sports and lots more. Most programmes include discussions, interviews, news and a broad range of music. The station is mostly run by volunteers but has recently employed a full time station manager. Alive radio upholds a Christian ethos, this means that while secular content is permitted content considered contrary to Christian values is not allowed. Alive radio seeks to build community spirit and help people feel good about their community and their place within it.

Alive radio's history

Alive Christian Radio was formed in 2004 as a result of two people who shared a dream. Local Christian worker, David Currie and Church pastor, Mark Smith had a coffee together and began to share with each other their dream of having a Christian radio station which would be widely accessible on FM in the Dumfries

area.

They invited interested people to get together and after a lot of hard work and occasional tears, Alive was launched. The first broadcast period used a 28 day Restricted Service Licence during July and August 4, on 87.7FM and online through aliveradio.net. Over 50 people were involved in the project, mainly as presenters. In 2005 the project was launched again with even greater levels of success, and encouraged by this it was decided to run once again in 2006.

On 11 May 2007 approval for a Community Radio Licence by Ofcom was confirmed, broadcasting on 107.3fm did not begin however until 1 September 2009.

The full time broadcast proved to be different from the original restricted licence broadcasts in terms of Christian content. The aims of the station shifted from serving the Christians within the community to serving the community as a whole. This caused some controversy as some preferred it in its original form. Currently there are some volunteers including presenters who are not necessarily affiliated to the Christian faith itself. The same can be said of course for many of the listeners.
