Until the mid-1970s, Alfred Berg was a family owned business. Following a period as a partner-operated firm, Alfred Berg became a subsidiary of the Volvo Group in the early 1980s.

In the mid 1980s, the firm began to expand from its Swedish stockbroking base into Norway and Denmark. The pan-Nordic concept, which many competitors would soon follow, was fully in place in the early 1990s with the establishment of offices in London (1990), Helsinki (1991) and New York (1992). Since 1995 Alfred Berg has been owned by ABN AMRO
