In 1943, Alexander Pushnin entered the painting department of the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. He studied of Ivan Stepashkin, Mikhail Avilov, Yuri Neprintsev, Alexander Gerasimov

In 1950 Alexander Pushnin graduated from Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after Ilya Repin in Rudolf Frentz
