On November 21, 2008 the Alaska Dream took to the court for the first time at the preseason 1st Annual Dare to Dream Tournament at the Carlson Center

. The Dream went 3-0 and won their first tournament and games in the teams history. In addition, the ABA released the power rankings which ranked the Alaska Dream at the number 2 spot.
On December 30, 2008, the Alaska Dream canceled their participation in the 2008-09 season. They were reportedly going to play in the 2009-10 ABA season
