When MGT went into receivership in 1990, Alan and Bruce bought the assets to form Sam Computers. Unfortunately that company also succumbed in 1992, so Alan went back to the Arab Gulf.
In 2011, he returned to Cambridge

He has also written a novel available as an e-book, entitled The Lebanese Troubles.
