 and at the international institute for economics in Hamburg. He received a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Neuchâtel in 2005 and a masters in Political Science in 1996. He is the author of several books and some 30 articles on economic development, migration and regional development.

Berset is vice-president of the social democratic group in the Swiss parliament since 2006. He is a member of the parliamentary assembly of the OSCE. He was re-elected in the year 2007.
