The Al Gosaibi family is a prominent Arab
family in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia
and Bahrain
. It is a trading family, involved in many successful businesses.
The family origins is from a village in Najd
called Qassab. The Family moved from Qassab to Herreimlah at the Late 18th century, Abdulla Bin Hussain AlGosaibi worked with the Amir (Prince) of Herreimlah as tax controller, His father Hussain was a poet.
The AlGosaibi moved to AlHassa
The three brothers Hassan, Mohammed, and Ibrahim, they are the three sons of Abdullah, at the late 19th century,the middle son Mohammed who have started the family wealth then moved to Bahrain, and that when the story of an old influential business family began by the five AlGosaibi brothers.
The AlGosaibi used to be the representatives of the Al Saud during the 20th century in AlHassa
, as well as Bahrain
and therefore were very influential in Bahrain.
The brothers are the sons of late Sheikh Hassan Bin Abdulla Bin Hussain AlGosaibi and late Sheikh Ibrahim Bin Abdulla bin Hussain AlGosaibi. Ibrahim was Hassan’s brother, following Hassan's death Ibrahim married his widow and took care of Hassan's three children (Abdulaziz, Abdulla and Abdulrahman). Ibrahim subsequently fathered two sons, Hassan and Saad. Also Ibrahim took care of Mohammed's three children(Yousif, Abdulrahman, and Mohammed).
During the second half of the 19th century, the family moved to AlHassa, where the brothers began their trading activities. First through trading dates in India and then pearling in Bahrain. At a time when pearls were more valuable than diamonds, the Gulf's pearling boom propelled the family to prominence, and paved the way to develop strong trade channels in Europe through the jewelry industry. As a result, the AlGosaibi family became Arabia's first millionaires and from the 1920s through the 1930s they were the richest family in Arabia.
