On 4 and 5 May 2010 ACER held the inaugural meeting of its Board of Regulators in Brussels. At the inaugural meeting, Lord Mogg was elected the first Chair of ACER’s Board of Regulators and Mr Walter Boltz the Vice Chair, each appointed for a 2.5 year (renewable) period. On 6 May, the Administrative Board designated Alberto Pototschnig as its first Director. By deciding on their director and chairs, ACER took a step forward towards becoming fully operational.

Tasks

The agency will
  • complement and coordinate the work of national regulatory authorities,
  • participate in the creation of European network rules,
  • take, under certain conditions, binding individual decisions on terms and conditions for access and operational security for cross border infrastructure,
  • give advice on various energy related issues to the European institutions, and
  • monitor and report developments at the European energy markets.
