African languages and cultures was published biannually by the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) for the Department of African Languages and Cultures, and the Centre for African Studies, SOAS, University of London. It contains scholarly contributions on all aspects of African language studies and language-based cultural studies. The journal was published under this title from 1988-1997. From this date it then continued as Journal of African Cultural Studies
