 capability, a 1.0 GHz Dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore processor and a 1.3 MP front-facing camera.

Hardware

The tablet is enclosed in a black plastic body, weighing a total of 700 g (1.5 lb).

The capacitive screen has a 1024×600 resolution and supports two-finger multi-touch. It has a flash internal storage of 512 MB and can be expanded with a microSD card. It also has one USB port. The Advent Vega comes with a 4 GB micro SD card as standard.

Its CPU is a 1.0 GHz Dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore and has 512 MB of RAM.

The tablet has a 1.3 MP front-facing camera for video calling and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR connectivity. It also has an HDMI port.

The battery gives it 6.5 hours of video playback or 16 hours of audio playback time (with the screen powered off). On standby the battery life will last up to four days.

Software

This tablet comes with Android 2.2 and will be upgradeable to Android 2.3 in the near future. The current Android version has been stripped of some functionality compared to other similar tablets running Android 2.2. The tablet does not come with Android Market pre-installed, though this will be fixed with a future update of Android, but the device comes pre installed with the Archos AppsLib store, featuring over 5,000 apps.

Several custom ROMs (e.g. Corvus5, MoDaCo) are available to improve the experience on the Vega, for example by giving access to the Android market. Android 3.2 has been successfully ported to the Vega as "VegaComb" by individuals in the community, providing access to the Android Market, along with full hardware acceleration provided by the Tegra chipset.

Early impressions

The Advent Vega had good first hands-on impressions and is considered a strong rival for other tablet PC's released earlier this year, such as the Apple iPad
