He was accused of assisting in the planning of the attacks but not of actually attempting to detonate a bomb himself. At his original trial the jury failed to reach a verdict. Subsequently, he chose to plead guilty to the lesser charge of collecting information useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.
