's breakfast show Sunrise. It is the most watched breakfast show on Australian television. The show with Boland at the helm gained the position of number one breakfast morning program, pipping the Nine Network
's Today
out of the spot which it held for 20 years. He also created The Morning Show
and Weekend Sunrise.
Before working on Sunrise, Boland was a senior producer in ATN-7
's Sydney newsroom. Prior to that, he was a reporter at Channel Ten, gaining some notoriety for interviewing comedian Jerry Seinfeld
. He started in radio at 4BC
in Brisbane. He joined 3AW
in Melbourne and then Sky News Australia
as one of the station's original producers.
In June 2010, the Seven Network
confirmed that Boland intended to leave the network at the end of the year, following the expiry of his contract. Seven's director of news and current affairs, Peter Meakin
, said that Boland was not intending to move to another network.
In August 2010, the Seven Network
announced that Boland would be setting up his own production company but would spend two days a week at the network in 2011 consulting on a range of projects, including morning television.
In 2010, Boland was selected by readers of samesame.com.au as one of the 25 most influential gay Australians.
In February 2011, Boland announced that he and partner Julian Wong are going to set up Ginseng Korean bathhouse
