Act Provocateur was founded in 2001 by Victor Sobchak (Artistic Director), Iaione Perez (Principal Actor) and Andy McQuade

Best known for "hard-hitting in-yer-face" style of theatre and for supporting young actors, it became well-known as a company that actively promoted new writing, as well as obscurer Eastern European writers who had fallen out of fashion. The company produced many shows at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre in Kentish Town, London, including touring to various festivals around the world.

Described as 'the most fearless theatre company in London' [First Act] but also more commonly reviewed in terms of the excessive sexual nature of their productions ("The director, Victor Sobchak, is disconcertingly obsessed with the women in this play...Sobchak takes rather too many opportunities to put them on display"

API disbanded in June 2008 following a takeover, which saw a former employee of Sobchak's take over the day to day running of the theatre.

Iaione Perez is now based in Spain working on her film career.

Victor Sobchak is in the final stages of opening London's first baroque theatre and the launch has been reported as taking place in May/June 2010.
