Started very late with sports Stanković managed to be junior vice champion in pole vault and decathlon
in former Yugoslavia.
He was well known as the last pole vault champion of former Yugoslavia.
Competition was held 1991 in Sarajevo capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Croatian competitors didn't show, demonstrating protest against war that started on their territory.
