Abu al-Hasan as-Said al-Mutadid was an Almohad caliph who reigned in Morocco
from 1242 until his death.
He succeeded his brother Abd al-Wahid II
in a period in which the Almohads controller only parts of Morocco
. During his reign, the Hafsids of Tunis
extended their rule to Algeria
and Tlemcen
, while the Marinids conquered Meknes
. As-Said was able to obtain a contingent from the Marinids to fight the Hafsids, but was killed in an ambush.
The Marinids took the chacne to conquer Fes
, reducing the Almohad effective control to the Marrakech
area.
