It is one of the oldest and most active student unions in the UK. It was the union that hosted first NUS UK national conference. Today it still plays a crucial role in uphold the interests of students in Aberystwyth, in Wales and across the UK. A student advice and counselling centre offers support services to all students and is able to cover a wide range of subjects such as stress

In addition to campaigning and student support roles, it offers commercial services that include a shop, various entertainment events across its two bars, The Joint/Bar Nine in the Guild building and Cwrt Mawr Bar, as well as a catering outlet, a hairdressing salon and a careers advice centre. It supports various sports clubs and societies including its own student radio station Bay Radio and newspaperThe Courier.

Executive committee

The Executive Committee are those that run the Students Union between General Meetings. They are students that are still studying at University and are unpaid. They volunteer for the roles and are voted in the same way as the Sabbatical Officer par from the Societies Officer and Deputy Athletic Union Officer for whom they are voted on at the Annual General Meeting with those with BOS cards and/or 'Sporty' Cards.

Sports & societies

There are currently over 100 sports clubs and societies affiated to the Guild. For sports these range from more traditional sports like Rugby, Football & Hockey to American Football, Cheerleading and Ultimate Frisbee as well as country based sports such as clay pigeon shooting and horse riding. The societies range from more national movements such as people and planet or amnesty (called Aberamnesty in this case) to TamSoc (Tarot and Meditation) or Exploding Fish (an improvisation society) A full list can be found on the website. Most people will join these groups at the annual freshers fairs held in the first week of term usually in late September.
