Abe met a private detective named Nathaniel Byrd, also known as Blackbyrd. Abe helped Blackbyrd stop a plan by the Caxon Oil Company to exchange black market firearms for illegal plutonium. Blackbyrd later contacted the Sons to help investigate reported atrocities at the New Troy State Prison.

, who had joined with the Sons. When Bob got into a fight over her with Lin Sun, a fight broke out and Bob struck Abe. Abe angrily tore off his tiger pendant and stormed out. Realizing the Sons could not be a viable team this way, they broke up. Abe remained with Lin Sun and Lotus at the martial arts school.
