. He was the uncle of Sidney Aronovitz (1920–1988), the US District Judge for the Southern District of Florida (1976–1988).

In the 1920s, he ran and lost the election for the Jacksonville city commission. He then moved to Miami and in 1926 was appointed acting State Attorney. In 1927, he ran and lost the election for the City Commission of the City of Miami. He served as Miami city attorney in the 1930s. He was elected mayor of Miami from 1953 through 1955 and then served as commissioner until he resigned due to health problems in 1958. He was staying at Havana Hilton Hotel in Havana
