Blabey appeared in various, largely minor, television and film roles throughout the 1990s and 2000s and had been involved in several theatrical productions. From the mid-2000s Blabey turned is attention away from acting towards painting. Blabey has also written and illustrated two children's books. The first, Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley, published in July 2007, received a Children's Book Council of Australia Award
