A Region D
Encyclopedia
Region D is one of the four A regions of the Virginia High School League
. It is made up of three districts: the A Black Diamond District
, the A Cumberland District
, and the A Lonesome Pine District
. The region is located in the far western part of Southwest Virginia, west of Region C's
location.
As was the case with Region IV
, the region was the smallest in Group A, due to high schools consolidating. Several schools were transferred from the southern part of the Region C
to help balance the numbers. In addition, to make advancing to regional playoffs fairer, an additional district was created, the Clinch Mountain District
.
