In 2006, Alliance Technologies aspired to provide extra functionality based on a modern Application Dictionary. Based on their previous experience in Compiere

and the then recent fork, Adempiere, they ported the Ultima Applications to share the same platform as Adempiere.

This necessitated a complete rewrite of the Adempiere framework to provide the extra functionality required such as a web-based Ajax Front-End, deeper business functionality in the horizontal modules as well as integrating the verticals that had already been developed.

Development

A1 ERP is primarily developed by Alliance Technologies with enhancements coming in from the channel partners as well as clients. Whilst open source, A1 ERP is only available through the Channel Network of certified partners.

The first version of A1 ERP 1.0 was based on enhanced Adempire ERP integrated with the Ultima Applications. A1 ERP 2.0 however, is a complete rewrite of the earlier edition with the Ultima applications already rewritten and integrated to form a single codebase that is based on a modern 3-tier architecture.

A1 ERP is primarily developed in Java based on a 3-tier architecture of a GWT Ajax based front-end, J2EE compliant application server and the Postgres SQL Server as the database backend.

The User Interface is primarily built up at ran-time using rules stored in the database by the Application Dictionary. This allows the User Interface to be built up separately for different platforms such as Computers, Smartphones and other handheld devices.
