 was titled METAMORPH. It lasted from September 12 to November 7 and was directed by Kurt W. Forster. The exhibition attracted over 115,000 visitors.

Awards

The recipients of the prestigious Lion Awards were:
  • Golden Lion Award for Best Installation Presented by a Country: Belgium, for it pavilion and for the installation "Kinshasa, The Imaginary City."
  • Golden Lion for Most Remarkable Work in the Exhibition: SANAA, for the "Twenty-First Century Museum of Contemporary Art" in Kanazawa, Japan, and for the Ivam extension in Valencia, Spain.
  • Concert Halls: Danish/Belgian firm Plot for their Concert Hall Stavanger in Norway.
  • Episodes: German photographer Armin Linke and Italian architect Piero Zanini for the installation "Alpi."
  • Transformations: Austrian architect Günther Domenig for the Documentation Centre at the Party Rally Grounds in Nuremberg, Germany.
  • Topography: London-based Foreign Office Architects for the Novartis Car Park in Basel, Switzerland.
  • Surfaces: Japanese practitioner Shuhei Endo for "Springtecture."
  • Atmosphere: Australian firm PTW Architects and partners CSCEC + Design of China for the National Swimming Center, Beijing Olympic Green.
  • Hyper-Projects: Martinez Lapeña-Torres Arquitectos for the Esplanada Forum of Barcelona.
  • Morphing Lights, Floating Shadows (Photography): NASA in collaboration with Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Cornell University for images of Mars.
  • Golden Lion for lifetime achievement: Peter Eisenman.
