Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras is the first and highest division of football in Honduras. The league season is divided into Opening and Closing . One team is relegated to the Liga de Ascenso and one team is promoted from Liga de Ascenso...

 will be divided into two tournaments (Apertura and Clausura) and will determine the 59th and 60th champions in the history of the league. It will also provide two berths for the 2012–13 CONCACAF Champions League

. The Apertura tournament will be played in the second half of 2011, while the Clausura on the first half of 2012. A new change in the system will be used for this season; unlike previous years, 6 teams will qualify to the final round, matching team 3rd vs team 6th and team 4th vs team 5th, those who advance will play the semifinals against 1st and 2nd.
