The men's 4×100 metre medley relay event at the 2010 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m) took place 19 December. The heats and final were held on 19 December.
The American team consisting of Nick Thoman
, Mihail Alexandrov, Ryan Lochte
, and Garrett Weber-Gale
won the gold in a championship record time of 3:20.99. Thoman, the world record-holder in the 100 metre backstroke (short course), started off the relay with a time of 49.88. For the first leg, Stanislav Donets
of Russia came first with a time of 48.95, a new championship record in the 100 metre backstroke and was within one-hundredth of a second from the world record. After the first 100 metres, Russia was in first place and the United States second. Alexandrov then swam the breaststroke leg in a time of 56.52, faster than Stanislav Lakhtyukhov's time of 57.27. However, at the 200 metre mark, the United States was slightly behind Russia 1:46.40 to 1:46.22. For the butterfly leg, it was a duel against Evgeny Korotyshkin
and Lochte. Korotyshkin started well. In the first 50 metres of the butterfly, he recorded a split of 22.15, better than Lochte's time of 22.60. But Lochte had a superior back half and finished his leg in 49.17 as Korotyshkin recorded a time of 49.39. After Lochte's leg, the United States was slightly ahead of Russia 2:35.57 to 2:35.61. For the final leg, Garrett Weber-Gale was able to hold on the lead and expand it with a time of 45.42. Nikita Lobintsev
finished off with a time of 46.00, putting Russia in second place with a final time of 3:21.61, 0.62 behind the United States.
