It was the fifth event of five of the 1995-1996 Champions Series, a series of senior elite competitions that was later renamed the Grand Prix of Figure Skating.  was held in Nagoya, Japan from December 7th through 10th. Skaters who placed high enough in this competition earned points towards competing in the 1995-1996 Champions Series Final.
