Said Saints head coach Hank Stram
following the loss, "What a nightmare. It was the worst experience of my coaching career. We're all ashamed for our people, for our fans, for our organization". He was fired the next week.

Regular season
The season's first victory for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the franchise's first overall, did not come until week 13 on the road against the New Orleans Saints. The Bucs led at halftime by a score of 13-0. Dave Green had two field goals, while Gary Huff threw a touchdown pass to Morris Owens.
