. This year would mark the abolishment of the Challenge Round. The previous year's champion would now play in all matches, rather than advance directly to the Challenge Round. The winner of the Inter-Zonal Zone would be declared the champion. 56 teams would enter the competition, 34 in the Europe Zone, 11 in the Americas Zone, and 11 in the Eastern Zone.
