The regiment was formed in 1967 from two territorial transport regiments, with two transport squadrons; a third (225 Squadron) was formed from a cadre of The Queen's Own Lowland Yeomanry in 1967, and a fourth (251 Squadron) in 1971 from a cadre of The Ayrshire Yeomanry. It returned to two squadrons in 1992, when 222 and 225 Squadron were re-roled and transferred into The Scottish Yeomanry.
