142nd Street Junction
Encyclopedia
The 142nd Street Junction is an intersection on the New York City Subway
where the IRT White Plains Road Line
and IRT Lenox Avenue Line
join at grade ( trains). South of the junction, there is a double crossover. Then, two tracks turnoff (both at grade), and that is where the 2 train connects to the White Plains Road line. The 3 train continues to the 5-car only 145th Street Station. Because this junction is at grade, the Lenox Yard Tower must control the signals so that downtown 2 trains do not swipe uptown 3 trains. There has not been an accident with this junction, so we can assume that the tower covers the junction successfully.
