Critical Reception

100 Days, 100 Nights received mixed reviews from music critics. Douglas Wolk said this third album by Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings is "...half baked...never
satisfies like the real thing"-
Marisa Brown stated "... that's the magic and power of SharonJones & The Dap-Kings: their ability to convey passion and pain, regret and celebration, found in the arrangements and the tail ends of notes, in the rhythms and phrasing,
and it is exactly that which makes 100 Days, 100 Nights such and excellent release." [-.
Noel Murray gave it a positive review but said “... 100 Days 100 Nights doesn't pop with sweaty passion like The Dap-Kings more memorable work, the record retains
a ripped-from-the-past vibe that's astonishing in and of itself.”- Justin De La Cruz states the album is " Placed atop a real funk groove, Jones' soulful vocals are a force to be reckoned with. She moans and groans, twisting an audible pain into every vocal inflection as horns roar in the background-. Abigail Everdell remarked that when Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings performed at a concert for Aids/HIV awareness at New York's Radio Music Hall " ... a lengthy rendition of 100 days, 100 nights which brought the audience out of their chairs to dance for the first time all night.-" Referring to the album 100 days, 100 nights Joe Tangari says "... They may not be doing anything especially new, but Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings are the very bestat what they do, and they've made another excellent album."Andrew Gilstrap's considered Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings 2005 release of Naturally a great soul/R&B album compared to their next album 100 days, 100 Nights which he thought was less intense. " So 100 Days, 100 Nights is most definitely a Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings record, but it doesn't announce itself with the same brash authority as Naturally."-

ranked the album #9 on its "Rock’s Best Albums of the Decade" list. - "Maybe there's something anachronistic about a band that plays funk music in the 21st century as if Parliament (let alone hip-hop) had never happened. It does sound like Sharon Jones could have cut her record in 1967, not 2007. But when the music's this good, those concerns fly out the window. Jones pours everything she's got into this album, and her gruff, passionate, brassy style grabs you by the collar and doesn't let go until the end. The Dap-Kings restrain themselves behind her, shuffling and jangling but leaving her plenty of space to maneuver on a clutch of good, if not great, songs."

Pitchfork online music reviews ranked the album an 8 out of 10 "reviews". - Review writer Joe Tangari likens The Dap Kings third album to a smoother motown sound as compared to the two previous albums, yet still commanding a strong performance with the essence of James Brown, stating the album "bursts with raw emotion and stinging grooves." -
