The investigation officer in the case submitted supplementary charge sheet before the court of chief metropolitan magistrate Paresh Chandra Sharma implicating eleven more people, including former industries minister Motiur Rahman Nizami and former state minister for home affairs Lutfozzaman Babar,on June 26, 2011.
Earlier, charge sheet was submitted in the case implicating implicating 43 people, court sources said adding that the number of implicated persons had stood at 50 after the submission of the supplementary charge sheet in the case filed under arms act.
The police seized a total of 4,930 different types of sophisticated firearms, 27,020 grenades, 840 rocket launchers, 300 rockets, 2,000 grenade launching tubes, 6,392 magazines and 11,40,520 bullets while they were being loaded on 10 trucks from two engine boats at the jetty of CUFL.
Ahadur Rahman, the then officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli police station, filed case in connection with the incident on April 3 in 2004 and was appointed IO into the cases. The cases were transferred to the CID
after 22 days of filing while ASP AKM Kabir Uddin was appointed IO, who submitted the first charge sheet on June 11, 2004
Former industries minister Motiur Rahman Nizami, former state minister for home affairs Lutfozzaman Babar
, former directors general of National Security Intelligence, retired major general Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury and retired brigadier general Abdur Rahim, former additional secretary to the industries ministry Nurul Amin, former NSI directors, retired wing commander Shahabuddin Ahmed and retired major Liakat Hossain, and field officer Akbar Hossain, former managing director of Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Limited Mohshin Talukder, its former general manager AKM Enamul Haque and ULFA leader Paresh Baruah
were implicated with the incident in the charge sheets. Of them, Nurul Amin and Paresh Barua are absconding while rest others have remained behind the bars.
