I believe its because most politicians have most of their money in oil, gas, windfarms, and solar, so if we go nuclear then they will be out a pretty penny...we can't have that now can we..

are you guys for real? I, for one would fight to keep British Columbia nuclear free. A safe place to live and a clean place for all generations to come. During the decay process of uranium it produce materials that emits a form of radiation capable of changing the elctrical charge of atom and altering the dna structures of living cells promoting mutation and ultimately cancer.
A nuclear power plant produces a host of deadly radioactive materials, the best known is plutonium, and most deadly, it is 20,000 times more deadly than cobra venom, just 1 micro gram can cause lung cancer in a human being. lung cancer is 95% terminal. Plutonium remains deadly for 250,000 years, the appoximate age of the earth, science has no means of storing plutonium safely for such a long time. letting the genie out of the bottle is easier than getting it back it. think again. for more detailed information go here http://www.boundaryalliance.org/mole.pdf

So you're saying that the earth is 250,000 yrs old?....just from that one statement, showed me your ignorance not only with earth history, but probably every else that spews from your pie-hole....hello...dinosaurs...millions of years old...enjoy

Ok, here are just a few of the materials you should read before making such a comment.

there are lot more information available if you just look and stop living in a fantasy world.you are entitled to your opinions and belief. I am glad we have plenty of hydro power and will not need to make a deal with the devil. If you wanted nuclear power,go ahead. just don't bring it to our back yard.

My comment back to you was about how rediculous your statement was about the earth only being 250,000 yrs old....if you don't like nuclear power plants, that's is fine....nuclear power is already in our backyards...there are multiple plants around the country/world....you're not going to stop them....enjoy....the devil doesn't deal....

Yes, you caught me on that point, I quote the number without checking . won't happen again. I stand on the rest of the comment. I hope you are following what is happening in Japan now and the response taken by USA and Germany at this moment.

Nuclear power in Japan(which is known for having major earthquakes), should have been extremely cautious in the construction process....they should have taken into account the possiblility of tsunamis' and all that....they didn't, and now we see the effects...I still say nuclear power is here to stay, but lets at least design these beast in a responsible way....enjoy

How do you know they didn't. Japan is the best nation to handle earth quake disasters. The core containment vessel is constructed with 15 cm thick stainless steel. The best laid plan of mice and men often goes astray., look at 3 mile island. you have exhust valve failure combined with human error produce a no. 5 disaster. I do question their choice of reactor type. All reactors in Japan is either the GE mark 1 light water BWR or the Westinghouse light water PWR. Both type use enriched uranium. when the cooling water disappeared , the U235 will overheat and you have the problem as in Japan now. Mox in no.3 reactor have even a bigger problem. Heavy water reactors like the Canadian Candu reactors in operation since 1962 use deuterium as neutron rmoderator uses unenriched uraniun U238, unfissible on its own as fuel. When, if you do loose he cooling heavy water, the fast neutron can not be captured by the U238 atom and fission stops. no run away neuclear fission. Another thing, the steam loop does not enter the heating reactor core, if you ever have a leak in the turbine or had to release steam pressure, the steam is not radioactive. a lot safer, but more costlier.

Great, but then if Japan is soo cool with nuclear, then how did they have all their reactors stop operating?....I'm not against nuclear in any way...just wondering about their oopsies...enjoy

I said no such thing. didn't I critized their reactor type as being basically inferior and down right dangerous. lets be fair, it lasted 30 years and had been through many earth quakes. three mile island gone to catagory 5 disaster without an earth quake. figure that one out. I am against nuclear power and always will be. If nuclear power has to be, make it the safest configuration.

@tseto-------give them hell, we already have nuclear plants that are just time bombs, and these "pro nuclear" idiots will eventually pay the price just as all humanity will , having to live in a radiation contaminated environment! Isn't it ironic that the same "eco-radical progressives that have fallen for the biggest CON in history, global warming, now support energy production that can and will one day make the whole eastern seaboard uninhabitable! And when that happens I hope all of Texas' borders will be sealed , keeping out illegals and yankees!
