Why is Barack Obama focused on policy initiatives that have nothing to do with the economy (health care, education, etc)?

His statements suggest that he believes that any type of government spending is stimulus. Building roads and bridges results in the creation and preservation of jobs - which in turn benefits the economy as a whole.

Whether or not he actually believes this is another matter.

The famous economist John Maynard Keynes that the economy would be better off even if all workers did was dig ditches and fill them up again.

So he wants us all to be ditch diggers? Who's paying us to dig these ditches? where are they located? what are they for? When the old and young die while doing this labor, do we just throw them in the ditch and toss some dirt on them, grateful that they aren't burdening our economy any more?

I am a full-time college student who receives financial aid, well, more like I rely on financial aid although I also work. But, after saying that, I have a very bothersome question. About two semesters ago/a year, Mr. Obama raised our financial aid by $500 a semester for each qualifying student. Although this may bode well for me at this time, I must ask why I keep hearing about budget cuts (in secondary school education) and failing elementary, junior high, and high schools? I am only lucky to be graced by good early education by teachers and family members. How is the next generation (and those coming after) supposed to get into college and take advantage of this increase in financial aid grants if they don't receive a proper education before hand? Or even worse, how many will not be able to find work and end up going to Community College (as I do) and repeatedly failing classes only to get the grants as long as they can (as many do at my College). I also want to make mention (although I am not sure how accurate this is) that all of the schools closing tend to be in ghettos (I personally am from a "ghetto") where crime is already high. If we lose education there, our crime levels will skyrocket and all those children will lose the chance to make something of themselves. Please, Obama, stop stealing our children's futures to make young, impressionable (but still of voting age) college students pockets just a little fatter.
