Among utkala(oriya)bramhins jharua are those who inhabit sambalpur,bargarh,bolangir(western) area.they are asrotriya,meaning they cant read veda books.they eat many wild animals like deer,sambhar,kutra,even chicken.but they can be astrologers,ayurvedis,tantriks,temple cooks etc.other bramhins of coastal orissa(like that of puri,ganjam,cuttack,jajpur)are vaidika bramhins(danua) and are kulinas.they abstain from chicken even some from fish also.so there is a lot of difference in jharua of west and danua of coastal.generally danuas are considered superior as they have right to sit on muktimandap of puri.another group called halua exist who are the most lowest,they cant do puja etc,they do agriculture,business.
