You will see from my earlier question that I was in school in Ealing during WW2. When the air raid sirens sounded we were hustled down to the safety of the basement of the old house. To my recollection many bombs were dropped in or around Ealing plus there were also many incenduary bombs dropped. In those days German bombers destined to drop bombs on London City center had a dislike of the barrage balloons that encircled London and therefore many dropped their bombs on the suburbs. There were many during the Blitz and the flying bomb raids. One in particular I have is a news papaer cutting of is of a series od wrecked houses on Meadvale Road after a fly bomb attack on Sunday morning August 20 1944.In those days when I was around 12 to 14 I used to collect shrapnal (bits of bombs) on my way to school! There were air raid 'bloch houses' on many roads to give shelter during the day and almost every house had some sort of dug out shelter in the back gaden
