Air conditioning

Must the windows in all rooms be closed on the same level of a room with an air conditioner running at 10,000btu/h?

My husband and I had a discussion about this earlier. He says all of the windows on the same level with the air conditioner must be closed. I disagree.

The air conditioner is located inside the living room window facing opposite the foyer. There's an opened archway separating the two rooms. I agree the foyer and stairway window leading upstairs away from the foyer should be closed. However, I disagree the kitchen and dining room windows should be closed. The kitchen is parallel to the foyer with an opened vestibule separating them. There is another opened vestibule separating the kitchen and dining room. The dining room also has a door leading into the living room. I agree the dining room door should be closed if the dining room windows are opened while the air conditioner is on.

Of course, if all windows are closed, air conditioner cooling efficiency would be much better.
