Good day
I have possession of a silver Pallette inscribed to Mary Chitty in 1820 from Master Whichelo, and although I hold paintings of ships by a 'Mary Jones' I can find no information anywhere relating to 'Mary Chitty'
The families of East India captains, Furnell, Watson and Peaty seem to be attached, but I can find no direct connection. I believe her relative was a prominent artist, Isabella, who, in 1828 made a Collection of her paintings which we hold, but again all roads lead to nowhere.
Can anyone help out on this as Silver Awards for 'Best Student' of Whichelo must imply her prominence in that year.
Thank you
Chris Nicholson (curraghmor)
