I would like to learn more about Major Gray and his home. I believe it is located in the Radium Springs area on Dogwood Rd. What famous people might he have entertained in this home? I have heard the rumor that President Kennedy visited there. Thanks for any information.

Can't tell you much about his house but back in the day Mayor Gray was a very big dog, not just in Albany but in the Democratic Machine in GA.

Grey Communications is the current incarnation of his media legacy. In the old days before market monopoly rules, Gray owned the local TV station, channel 3, and the main local newspaper, The Albany Herald.

He was Chairman of the GA Democratic Party from the days of the Old Guard, but I can't tell you the dates. Back then, he maintained office hours in the city's administration building and I remember dropping in to see him several times. In my recollection, he was actually pretty accessible though he did have this bodyguard dude who went with him everywhere.

There was this pool hall/beer joint in a storefront across from the city building where I suspect a certain type of business might have been conducted. Anyway, there was this guy who hung around the downtown sidewalks and in the pool hall - I don't know if I ever knew his name. I don't believe this guy would have have made it into Mensa, if you catch my drift. Oddly, when credit cards first came out, for some crazy reason, this guy got one. He promptly used it get a car and head out to Vegas where things did not work out well. So, he calls Mayor Gray for help. The Mayor saves the day, sorts out the money thing and gets this guy back to Albany.
