I would. I am an experienced climber, having climbed McKinley (20,320') in Alaska, and Aconcagua (22'875) in Argentina. Climbing is dangerous- don't underestimate it. I had to walk across a dead climber's body to get to the summit pf Aconcagua in 1987. Believe me, you will thank me if you get an experienced guide.

I believe so. You will want an ice axe and crampons, as well as rope. If you get a guide (and I pray you will), he will explain all this to you. Although a "walking tour" sounds safe, there are ridgelines that must be navigated, that often have incredible exposures, sometimes a thousand feet or more. (air directly beneath one's feet). A slip in such a circumstance would be fatal. I went on a "walking tour" in Scotland on Ben Nevis, and even as an experienced climber, there were a few times I would have welcomed the security of a rope. Ridge tours are as dangerous as a direct face climb of a mountain, because you have the same exposure (air beneath your feet). Don't be macho, get a good guide and tell him what you want to do. He will be understanding and protect you, and you will have a safe trip! To the Summit!
