In the beginning, critics praised the show for its wit and originality, but in the late '90s the show began to change direction. Gradually long term fans became disillusioned with the new emphasis on 'zany antics.'

I think The Simpsons is just as good as it ever was. Sure, it's changed, but everything evolves over the course of time. It's still funny and relevant.
