I barely remember my grandfather and to my eternal shame I can't remember what regiment he was in during the first war. However, I do remember, as a child, being told that he was the second horseman in the gun carriage at Edith Cavell's funeral. I would be grateful if anyone could shed light on anything connected to this, as, although it was always common knowledge in my home, there seems to be a lack of information in general.

As your Grandfather was on one of the horses. I am pretty certain that he would have been a serving member of either The Royal Field Artillery or The Royal Horse Artillery.
If you know his full name you should be able to trace him in the P R O at Kew.
My father was in the RFA during WW1.
My father in law was one of the pall bearers at Nurse Cavells funeral. He was in the Coldstream Guards.
I believe there was newsreel coverage if the event and I am endeavouring to track it down.

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to contact me. I'm sorry not to reply earlier but I had great difficulty accessing the site for some reason.
